YOGA WITH KERRI-ANN
It's perfect weather for getting outside and gardening or taking a long bike ride. Before you get busy with Summer activities, take a few minutes to stretch and breathe deeply with the body. Spend some time warming up the body and mind by adding some yoga practice to your everyday routine. Control and elongate the breath by breathing into the lungs and then belly, and exhaling from the belly first and then lungs. A few rounds like that to get Prana circulating and flowing through the body. Add some simple movements like Cat and Cow (dynamically) to warm the spine, hips, shoulders. Maybe add a few rounds of Sun Salutations and you will be limber, and ready to roll!
Not sure what Prana, Cat and Cow, and perhaps Sun Salutations are?? Try an evening yoga class and find out! There are several classes offered weekly, in a friendly, welcoming and supportive environment. All levels of experience are welcome, from beginner to advanced. Class descriptions are as follows:
Prana Flow: Experience how the body and mind calm when focused on steading the breath in this practice that flows from one posture into the next. This is a more vigorous practice.
Restorative/Yin: Restore the body and mind in this practice that is floor based, supported by props and entwined with postures that pressurize and stretch meridian lines. A gentle flow series is optional. This practice is highly recommended for everyone. Anyone suffering from illness or injury. If you pregnant, recovering from surgery. If you are in need of a quiet practice that is deep, and mindful meditative.
Hatha Flow: Move and flow from one posture to the next with emphasis on your breathing.
Yoga Kids: Children explore traditional postures and breath through storytelling and interactive games. Building verbal, spatial, and artistic skills, as well as calming and preparedness practices. Yoga can greatly benefit any child, including children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down's Syndrome, ADD, and ADHD.
