Art, History & Ice Cream
Orangeville’s newest mural is a sweet homage to the town’s history and artistic character. Mill Creek Gardens Ice Cream Café is the proud home of Orangeville’s new mural, a delightful mix of art, heritage, and frozen desserts! This latest addition to the wonderful public art pieces on display throughout Orangeville is sponsored by the businesses and merchants of Downtown Orangeville through the Orangeville BIA and is designed to create an interactive, family space for Orangeville residents and visitors to enjoy. Located on Little York Street, Mill Creek Gardens Ice Cream Café has long been the town’s go-to spot for ice cream, serving up a delicious variety of flavours. The new mural is located the east wall of the Orangeville Outlet Centre within perfect view from the deck of the Café. Special thanks to the property owner for hosting Orangeville’s newest (and largest) selfie spot and to Wray Enterprises for the producing and installing the mural. The photo and location for the mural were selected by the OBIA’s Better Together Task Force, a team of volunteer business owners and members of the Orangeville BIA who focus on fostering public engagement and community spirit of Orangeville’s downtown core. The original photograph, courtesy of the Museum of Dufferin, is of Mill Creek during a flood in late 1800s. The content and location of the mural illustrate the stark contrast between the Mill Creek in 1890 compared to Mill Creek today. The mural honors the history of Orangeville but with the addition of a cheeky twist that reflects the commercialization of the area and the tasty treats one can find here now. 2020 has been a challenging year, but we can all still appreciate and celebrate art, history, and food. This new mural offers visitors to Little York Street a chance to do all three! Whether visitors stand back and admire or capture themselves or their friends and family in creative photographs, the piece is bound to prompt a smile (and a craving for ice cream).
